Our Services

Pricing at Foxy Paws is not based on the service rendered, but the time spent with your pet in order to complete a service. Our rate is currently $70/hour, breaking down to $1.17 per minute. Thus, a 30 minute bath will cost $35.10, plus Kentucky state sales tax. We accept cash and credit/debit card. We do not accept checks. Payment is due at pickup.

Baths

Every bath done at Foxy Paws includes a nail trim and grind, ear cleaning, anal gland check (expressed as needed,) tooth brushing, and de-shed.
We use iGroom, Isle of Dog, Hydra, and Chris Christensen shampoos in our salon. Each shampoo is chosen based on the needs of the individual dogs skin and coat condition.

Matting

Matting occurs for many reasons, included but not limited to swimming, playing, scratching, and not properly brushing on a schedule. Sometimes life gets away from us and the dog becomes matted, and the only recourse to a completely matted dog is to shave the coat. Brushing out severe matting causes skin trauma and pain to the dog and is not something we will do at Foxy Paws.
After shaving off a matted coat it is common to see some light bruising where the mats were tightest, sometimes hot spots or lesions are uncovered, and often the dog will act differently for a few days: shaking their head (if the ears were shaved after being heavy) scooting across the floor, turning quickly to look at their butts, and acting afraid if wind or air hits their skin. All this is due to the sudden change they experience going from super furry and heavy all over to their skin feeling the breeze again.
In rare instances, cuts or nicks may occur during a shave down, typically on the hocks, under belly, or under the throat, all places with thin skin where tight matting may occur. This is not negligence on the part of the groomer, these are delicate areas that are hard to get to made more difficult with a moving dog and skin under strain.

Full Service

For dogs that require a hair cut, we first prep (nails, paw pad shave, brush out) then bathe and blow dry the entire dog. This ensures we have a clean coat to work with making for a better grooming experience for the dog, while causing less wear on our equipment.
Hair cuts can range from a short, one length all over “summer cut” with a cute face to a full show clip that is fully hand scissored. It helps the groomer to know what kind of hair cut you want if you bring reference photos (ideally ones that are the same breed/coat type as your dog!)
Most of our hair cuts are done via clippers that take off bulk fur, then finished and fine tuned with scissor work. Please be aware of your lifestyle and your dogs life when choosing a clip: a doodle who swims daily probably doesn’t need a 2in all over hand scissor!
Another aspect of hair cuts to consider is the double coated dog with long fur, such as a golden retriever, aussie, border collie, husky, etc. These dogs should only be shaved/clipped short when medically necessary. Clipping these dogs repeatedly causes coat damage and sometimes skin trauma. We recommend regular de-shed baths and a tidy trim for these fluffy friends.
Every dog is different and has different needs. Foxy Paws strives to ensure a calm environment for our dogs, especially those that have had bad experiences in the past, who are elderly, and who are just plain dramatic. Sometimes a hair cut wont come out as perfect as we envision, and we feel that is okay. Not every dog has the ability or patience to tolerate perfection, but they are all treated with love and respect while in our salon.

Optional Extras

Some of the optional extra items we offer are:

Color – ears, tail, paws, or all over. Pricing for color work is $70/hour plus the cost of groom. We use Opawz and Crazy Liberty pet safe dye, this is a permanent color that will fade slightly over time. Dogs that do not get hair cuts will eventually shed out all the color over the course of a year or more.

Nail Painting – using dog safe polish, we can paint the nails of your pup! $5 per paw
